Handicraft - lifting women from poverty

The Gasabo Hand Craft Association (Apaga), is a women's association that came into existence in 2006. The association is made up of 30 women who participated in a 4 month training, funded by Rural Sector Support Project (RSSP); out of the 30 women, 25 are now able to make items and sell to support their family, hence reducing poverty. Second Rwanda Film Festival
Founded by the Rwanda Cinema Centre of producer/director Eric Kabera in 2005, the aim of the Rwanda Film Festival is to "open up the landlocked country to the world besides exposing it to the realities of the outside world". The Kigali screenings runs March 16th - 30th, 2007 & will feature drama, thriller, comedy, animation & documentary genres.

Will Cultural Imperialism Swallow Our Values?
Just how worried should we be about 'cultural imperialism?' I debated this with a friend. His position was that the current cultural imperialism of 'the west' was even more dangerous than the military imperialism of the 19th & 20thC that made colonialism possible.
